As part of our Summer Tour of Italy we include a wine tour in Tuscany. This is truly one of the highlights of our travel experience. Tuscany is one of the most beautiful places on earth and Italian wines are not to be missed.
As we start to sign up interested travelers for our next summer’s tour we wanted to share some of the day’s highlights of our winery tour.
We visited a winery called Il Palagio located in the Panzano in Chianti region. We were greeted by Monia Piccini who is the matriarch of the family. She gave us an extensive tour along with giving us their family history.
Once we got into the interior tasting area we were given a very handy card to make notes on each sample that we tried. I’ve included one in the image above.
They take great care in the production of their wines and she compared their process to the slow food movement but instead calling it the “slow wine” movement. They care a great deal about farming organically and keeping their wines to small batches.
The views were just incredible and as part of our tour we had a wonderful lunch with dishes that complemented the wine selections. We had a wonderful pasta, pesto, potato and green bean dish and a selection of toasts.
Many of our travelers bought wines to have shipped home (which was surprisingly reasonable!). We tasted five types and we also sampled the olive oils.
The Tuscan countryside was spectacular and the weather was just perfect. As a tour guide you couldn’t ask for a better day!
