Join ITATs and High Point University Art Professor Scott Raynor on a winter trip to New York City to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s unprecedented show of Michelangelo’s works. Suggested itinerary (may change)
Day 1, Friday
Leave GSO airport for flight to NYC, arrive in the morning . After we drop off our bags at the hotel and eat lunch we will explore our local neighborhood and make our way via subway to Midtown to explore Times Square, Hell’s Kitchen, and Broadway (our VMD/ID friends will take a WindowsWear tour). Late afternoon visit to the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) to see Vincent Van Gogh’s most famous painting Starry Night and Picasso’s scandalous Demoiselles d’Avignon.
Day 2, Saturday
Optional breakfast this morning at one of New York’s authentic bagel shop and a cup of hot coffee then we will take a morning tour of some of NYC’s best art galleries. After a mid-day break and lunch we will meet at the front steps of the Met to attend the Michelangelo Divine Draughtsman and Designer exhibit. After the Michelangelo show you will have free time to explore the city.
Day 3 Sunday, Morning tour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. You will have the opportunity to “Hack the Met” with a series of games, activities and exercises designed to make going to a museum fun! A refreshing way to visit a museum. Lunch on your own and meet back at our hotel to transfer back to the airport.
This tour requires you to be able to walk several miles in one day and be able to stand in a museum for 2-3 hours. We take breaks of course and everything is always optional but we do stay on the move!
There will be free time each day. You will get the chance to explore the city on your own if you stay in groups of 4.
It will be cold! It may be very cold. It may snow! Pack what you need to stay warm but make sure it fits into one carry on bag. Let’s hope there are no blizzards or extreme weather things.

We have in a comfortable hotel in the upper east side of Manhattan. Rooms are four people each.
What’s not Included?
If you want to check a bag you will pay that fee. You will cover all of your meals. Any additional museum/gallery entries. Your transportation to and from the airport via Taxi (usually 30-40 per taxi but it can hold up to 4).
Who Can Go?
We are really excited about this once in a lifetime opportunity to see Michelangelo’s unique and rarely shown works. Prof. Raynor really wants to see this show and thought he would open it up to other art lovers and enthusiasts. I am happy to take people from the community, my University, my former students. Anyone who likes and appreciates art.
